Attractions near Broken Hill Tourist Park

Afghan Mosque

The mosque is situated on the site of the former 'camel camp' where Afghan and Indian camel drivers loaded and unloaded their camel teams, from the earliest days of Broken Hill. It was constructed around 1891 as a place of worship for the followers of the Prophet Mohammed and is the only surviving mosque in Australia which was built by early cameleers.

The Broken Hill Heritage Trail is a two hour sign posted walking tour, taking you past many outstanding heritage buildings. 'The Silver City', as it is known, has always been associated with silver, lead and zinc mining. Many of the streets are named after metals, minerals and compounds, or after mine managers, leading citizens and civic leaders.

Line of Lode

Line of Lode Miner's Memorial and restaurant is a dramatic, iconic new structure on the edge of the mullock heap that dissects Broken Hill. It is a memorial to the 800 or more miners who lost their lives working along the Line of Lode. The building itself is a metaphor for the underground lives of the miners, evoking the damp, claustrophobic underground environment and audio-visuals of miners at work. The views over Broken Hill are spectacular!

Sturt Park Reserve and Titanic Memorial

Sturt Park was first gazetted as the Central Reserve in 1895 and was officially known as Sturt Park from 1944, to commemorate the centenary of the inland explorations of Captain Charles Sturt in 1844-45. Near the rotunda stands a memorial to the heroic bandsmen of the ill fated steamship Titanic who continued to play as the ship went down in a valiant effort to quell the panic of the passengers.
